What Is the Best Pharmaceutical Company to Work for
Glassdoor has released its latest list of the top 100 best places to work in 2021, and six pharmaceutical companies made the cut. One thread running across the entries in the entire list is the employers' ability to empower and inspire workers in a time of continued challenges.
In addition to the pharma companies, the Glassdoor ranking featured a handful of medical device companies as well, including Stryker (14/100) and Intuitive Surgical (41/100).
Johnson & Johnson: 24 out of 100
J&J (NYSE:JNJ) has come up in the ranks since we published our list of the top pharma companies to work for in May. J&J employees on Glassdoor praised the opportunities with various departments, the overall work environment and the work-life balance their roles afforded.
Johnson & Johnson was also the top-ranked pharmaceutical company in Gartner's most recent list of top 25 supply chain companies, coming in at slot three. "J&J remains unparalleled in the life science industry, possessing enduring leadership, operational strengths and expertise in supporting innovation," Gartner wrote in the report.
The company's CEO, Alex Gorsky, was also featured among the Glassdoor 2021 Top 100 CEOs, where he was listed at slot 29.
Pfizer: 39 out of 100
Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) employees appreciated the firm's culture, benefits and support for R&D. Pfizer also came in at slot 21 on Forbes' list of America's Best Employers for Diversity. On Glassdoor, 85% of Pfizer employees said they would recommend the company to a friend.
Pfizer also came in at slot 21 in Gartner's ranking of top 25 supply chain companies.
Merck: 63 out of 100
Merck (NYSE:MRK) had solid scores for its senior leadership and benefits. Employees also said they were pleased with the company's response to the COVID-19 pandemic when it provided pay during a shutdown. On Glassdoor, a total of 86% of employees would recommend Merck to a friend.
Merck's CEO Kenneth Frazier also had an especially high approval rating of 96% on Glassdoor. Frazier, however, is leaving his leadership role on June 30.
Bristol Myers Squibb: 78 out of 100
Bristol Myers Squibb (NYSE:BMY) employees were pleased with the company's support during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The company has also gone to significant lengths to shore up its pharma supply chain during the pandemic. Gartner also ranked Bristol Myers Squibb in its list of top 25 supply chain companies.
Bristol Myers Squibb has an average score of 4.1 on Glassdoor.
Eli Lilly: 87 out of 100
Lilly (NYSE:LLY) employees praised the firm's benefits, culture and mission. A total of 83% of workers there would recommend the company to others.
A total of 83% Lilly employees on Glassdoor would recommend the company to a friend.
Lilly wasn't included in our May ranking of top 10 pharma employers.
Novartis: 92 out of 100
Employees at Novartis (NYSE:NVS) appreciated the company's wages and diversity program. A significant number of Novartis employees using Glassdoor also praised its work environment and benefits.
Novartis CEO, Vas Narasimhan, was also featured as one of the Glassdoor 2021 Top 100 CEOs, coming in at slot 23.
